My Guitar Journey

At the end of 2021 I started playing guitar, virtually from scratch.

This is my guitar learning journey. Maybe others can learn from my struggles, triumphs and approach?
You can watch all of these videos, and many more, back to back, by simply clicking here.

7 Chords: I attempt to learn, and play, the SEVEN (7!) open guitar chords widely thought to be the first chords that a beginner should learn - A C D E G Em plus Am. Apparently, these chords are used in loads of famous songs.

Do you think I succeed? Do you think that I learn how to move from one chord to another? Do I play a recognisable songs? Watch & find out.

Are these the best, first chords to learn? Please let me know in the comments. Can you suggest different chords or songs? Can you suggest an easy, beginner song that uses the chords C Major & A Minor?
Guitar Lesson 6 of 10: AC/DC Style Open Chords: Who knew that AC/DC style open chords are a thing! Is it even possible? Watch the video to find out!

Can you believe that in nigh on 35 years of messing about with guitars, that I've never taken an actual lesson! (I bet you can from my playing!) Well, it's time to put that right, right now!

I'm going review a series of online / YouTube courses, so you know how good or bad they are. These videos are edited, to give a flavour of the course, & teaching style, without watching the whole thing. Enjoy!

10 Beginner Tips (Vol3): Another compilation of the next ten portrait, <1 min 'tip' shorts. These are tips from a beginner, aimed at other beginners, but there could be something here for anyone - just see the first one, if you don't believe me!. I've tried to make this one even more appealing with 'crazy' backgrounds.

I'm also experimenting with a new style of thumbnails. What do you think of it?

10 More Tips: Let me just say that I'm a beginner too! This isn't me showing off or saying look how good or knowledgably I am. I'm just trying to help other beginners by sharing what worked for me. I might be a bit ahead of some people, so here's the tips I wish someone had given me.

I'm just trying to reach out to fellow guitar learners and guitar beginners, so we can all learn together. So, we don't have to feel so alone, surrounded by showy experts. There are more videos like this to follow. Let's learn together!

Part 1: A grumpy, over 50 Brit reacts with respect, wit & insight to Lauren Bateman's "7 Tips for Learning Guitar Over 50" tuition video.

How good are these beginner guitar learning tips? What age groups are they aimed at? What sort of guitar learning tips are they? Do I agree with her tips? Will they be useful to someone in their 50's?

These tips are well worth listening to for anyone. What Lauren doesn't need is a grumpy "aud b*gger" like me sniping at her from the side lines!
Part 2: A grumpy, over 50 Brit reacts with respect, wit & insight to Lauren Bateman's "7 Tips for Learning Guitar Over 50" tuition video. Part 1 can also be found on this channel.

How good are these beginner guitar learning tips? What age groups are they aimed at? What sort of guitar learning tips are they? (Note: you will see 4 simplified chords.) Do I agree with her tips? Will they be useful to someone in their 50's or is Lauren just a trolling 'catfisher'? (Joke!)

These tips are well worth listening to, and they're applicable to acoustic guitar, electric guitar and probably even the banjo. (Sure, why not?)

10 Tips:
Are you thinking of learning the guitar, or have you started learning guitar, or even been playing for a while? Well, here are some tips that no one tells you - except me.

I want to give you the benefit of my experience, and give you tips that short-cut you to being a better guitar player, quicker.

So why is this video in portrait and not landscape? It's simply because it is a collection of my guitar "Diamond Tip" shorts, collected here into a bite-sized 10 minute collection.
Noodling: 10 minutes of me 'playing' (12?) snippets of electric guitar to highlight the pre-set patches on my Mooer GE100 multi-effects processor.

I'm coming back to playing guitar after 20+ years off, so I'm no virtuoso. (My fingers & brain don't work like they did in my teens / twenties!) This is just noodling from someone who is in essence a beginner. Excuse the mistakes, poor technique, and most of all, please be encouraging!

Thank you for watching. I really do appreciate it!

Video Zero:  The one that started it all & rejuvenated my love of learning & playing guitar.

I was challenged to work out '7 Nation Army' by the White Strips, by a friend. I only restrung my guitar in Dec 2020 after not playing for 25 - 30 years. (It's played here on a guitar I bought recently.)

I am still re-learning & am very much a beginner.
