Virtual Gig

A collection of my song video clips (cover versions and play along clips) that make up a virtual show, or gig of my playing, when played back to back. This will be edited constantly, so the quality and depth should improve over time. Should. There's also a little bit of banter in there too.

Anyone want to form a 'seniors' covers band?

Revealed: Did Secret Singing Lessons Work? This is a cover version of "I'm Just A Patsy" by The Manic Street Preachers.

I've always dreamed of being able to sing. I'm in awe of people who can. Singing is something born with. You can take lessons, but all you're doing is improving the original inherent talent. No teacher could teach me to sing.

Or so I thought. I took secret lessons, and you know what? I actually think that my voice improved. Once I was shown the best way to sing for my voice type, and to choose the right song for me, I think I came on leaps & bounds. What do you think?

This is my first attempt at recording a cover of "Seven Nation Army" by the White Stripes. This isn't me saying "Look at me! Look how brilliant I am!" This is a beginner recording his first attempt at playing a song, in the hope that I can look back in a few months (years?), and say "this is me playing it now. Have I improved?"

Oh, and this is only the second time I recorded the guitar straight from my Boss Katana 100 MkII into a Digital Audio Workstation, and my voice from a Rode Lavalier mic into a Zoom H1N digital Handy Recorder. What do you think of my second attempt at pro sound?
This is my first attempt at recording a cover of "Wild Thing" written by Chip Taylor and made famous by 60's British group The Troggs. Hopefully, I can look back in a few months (years?), and say "this is me playing it now. Have I improved?" I know I've done this better in rehearsals.

Oh, and this is only the third time that I've recorded the guitar straight from my Boss Katana 100 MkII into a Digital Audio Workstation (Cakewalk), and my voice from a Rode Lavalier mic into a Zoom H1N digital Handy Recorder, which unfortunately, stopped recording during setup.

This is my first attempt at playing "She Bathed Herself in a Bath of Bleach" by the Manic Street Preachers. In a few months (years?), I can look back and say "this is me playing it now. Have I improved?"

This is my second attempt at playing "Song 2" by Blur. This isn't me saying "Look at how brilliant I am!" This is a beginner recording his second attempt at playing a song, in the hope that I can look back in a few months (years?), and asking "Have I improved?"

What do you think of my attempt? Let me know in the comments. Oh, and I'm sorry about the dodgy old Marshall amp (1995!). It's seen better days but it sounds ok through headphones.

This is my first attempt at playing "Teenage Kicks" by The Undertones. This is a beginner recording his first attempt at playing a song, in the hope that I can look back in a few months (years?), and say "Have I improved?"

Will I be any good? Will I be able to play it all? What will we both learn together? This is a funny, and light-hearted first attempt. How bad can it be? What do you think of my attempt? What do you think of my guitar? Let me know.

This is my first attempt at recording my cover version of "Welcome to the Dead Zone" by The Manic Street Preachers. This is a beginner recording his early rehearsals.

Guitar used: 2021 Gibson Les Paul Tribute in Satin Honeyburst. Apologies for the poor sound quality.

This is one of my favourites!

This is my first attempt at playing along to "Welcome to the Dead Zone" by The Manic Street Preachers standing up. I'm not saying this is any good. I'm just recording the 'then' to compare to the 'now'.

Guitar used: Eastcoast GS100H HSS Trans Black Burst. I love this guitar & yes, that's a humbucker at the bridge.

Join me as I attempt to learn to play the guitar. This will be a magic, mysterious, thrilling, sometimes infuriating, journey into learning, playing and recording guitar.
